The Short Story

Lizz Hills is an eco-psychotherapist, nature-based counselling practitioner, permaculture educator, author, and community advocate based on Yugambeh Country in Queensland's Scenic Rim. In 2023 she walked 6,371 kilometres from Rathdowney, Queensland to Kalbarri, Western Australia, from the east coast to the west coast through the heart of the Australian deserts, under the Trek2Reconnect banner, engaging communities along the way in conversations about ecological grief, mental health, and reconnection to country. She is the 2024 Scenic Rim Citizen of the Year, a 2023 CSIRO Future Shapers Award recipient, a national ambassador for the National Assistance Card, and a contributor to Deep Times Journal. Her memoir, The Long Walk Home, is forthcoming.
